"Those were the days", geçmişe ve eski dostlara duyulan özlemi en güzel şekilde anlatan parçalardan biridir. Galli şarkıcı Mary Hopkin'in 1968'de doldurduğu ilk plağında yer alan bu şarkı kendisine şöhreti kazandırmıştır. Şarkı Boris Fomin'in (1900-1948) bestelediği "Dorogoi dlinnoyu" (Türkçesi: Uzun bir yolda) adlı geleneksel bir Rus folk şarkısıdır ve Gene Raskin bu şarkıya baştan yeni İngilizce sözler yazarak pop türüne uyarlamıştır.

Şarkı dünya çapında popüler olunca Paul McCartney Mary Hopkin'e şarkıyı 4 dilde daha söyletmiştir. Şarkının bu dört dildeki adları şöyleydi: İspanyolca'da "Que Tiempo Tan Feliz", Almanca'da "An Jenem Tag", İtalyanca'da "Quelli Erano Giorni", Fransızca'da ise "Le Temps Des Fleurs" dur. Bu melodik şarkının İngilizce adı Türkçe'de "hey gidi günler" veya "neydi o günler" anlamına gelmektedir.
